Overview
Sony FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS Super Telephoto Lens (SEL600F63GM)
The Sony FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS is a lightweight G Master super-telephoto prime lens designed for wildlife, bird and sports photographers who need exceptional reach without excessive weight. Combining a 600mm focal length, advanced optical engineering, dual XD Linear Motor autofocus and Optical SteadyShot stabilisation, it delivers outstanding detail and responsive subject tracking. Weighing approximately 995g without the tripod foot and measuring just 263mm long, this compact lens makes handheld super-telephoto photography more practical, particularly when following unpredictable subjects in demanding outdoor environments.
Key Features
- 600mm F6.3 G Master Optics: The fixed 600mm focal length provides exceptional reach for distant wildlife, birds and sporting action, while advanced optical engineering delivers impressive sharpness and subject separation.
- Lightweight 995g Construction: Weighing just 995g without the tripod foot and measuring 263mm long, the compact design improves mobility and reduces fatigue during extended handheld photography sessions.
- Super ED and ED Glass Elements: Advanced optical elements minimise chromatic aberration and colour fringing, delivering excellent resolution, natural colour reproduction and fine detail across the image.
- Dual XD Linear Motor Autofocus: Two high-thrust XD Linear Motors provide fast, accurate and quiet autofocus with responsive subject tracking, ideal for birds in flight and unpredictable sporting action.
- Optical SteadyShot Stabilisation: Built-in optical stabilisation offers selectable shooting modes to reduce camera shake during handheld photography, with coordinated stabilisation available when paired with compatible Sony camera bodies.
- Beautiful G Master Bokeh: An 11-blade circular aperture and individually optimised spherical aberration produce smooth background defocus, helping wildlife and other subjects stand out naturally.
- Professional Focusing Controls: Four focus hold buttons, a customisable function ring, Full Time DMF and a focus range limiter provide convenient control when photographing rapidly changing subjects.
- Extended Telephoto Reach: Compatible with optional Sony SEL14TC and SEL20TC teleconverters, extending the focal length to 840mm or 1200mm respectively, with a corresponding reduction in maximum aperture.
- Outdoor-Ready Construction: Dust and moisture resistant construction, Nano AR Coating II and a fluorine-coated front element help maintain image clarity and support reliable operation in challenging outdoor conditions.
Ideal For
- Wildlife photographers capturing distant animals without disturbing their natural behaviour.
- Bird photographers tracking birds in flight and photographing small or elusive species.
- Sports and motorsport photographers capturing fast-moving action from a distance.
- Aviation and outdoor enthusiasts requiring substantial telephoto reach with manageable weight.
- Sony Alpha photographers seeking professional super-telephoto performance in a portable prime lens.
The Sony FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS combines exceptional telephoto reach, G Master optical quality and responsive autofocus in a remarkably lightweight design. Its 2.5m minimum focusing distance, 0.25x maximum magnification and 95mm filter thread provide additional shooting flexibility. Designed for compatible Sony E-mount cameras, it also delivers a 900mm full-frame equivalent field of view on APS-C bodies. The supplied accessories include a lens hood, front and rear caps, soft case, lens strap, case strap and tripod mount. Sony teleconverters are sold separately, and some autofocus, stabilisation and custom control functions depend on camera compatibility. Dust and moisture resistance does not guarantee complete protection against environmental exposure.
