The Olympus M. Zuiko ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO II is a high image quality standard zoom lens redesigned with the latest manufacturing technologies. The f/2.8 at all focal lengths, large-aperture standard zoom loved by many Micro Four Thirds users has been redesigned as the II. In addition to its renowned resolution, suppressed flares result in crisp images. The dustproof and splashproof performance has been enhanced to IP53, providing further confidence in punishing environments. This is an essential standard zoom lens for users, and can handle various difficult shooting environments, delivering high image quality in a variety of situations.

ZERO Coating

ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) Coating is applied to the lens surface to thoroughly eliminates ghosts and flares that used to be difficult to reduce because of their high transparency. Optimized placement of coating improves resistance to backlighting. As a result ZERO Coating enhances image quality even in challenging conditions such as a backlit scenes.

Dustproof, Splashproof and Freezeproof

This model clears IPX3 and higher splashproof tests that far exceed the conventional IPX1 rating, as well as dustproof tests. It also remains functioning in low-temperature environments down to -10°C. Pairing this lens with a dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof camera body makes it possible to continue shooting in harsh conditions such as rain and snow—and even dusty environments—with confidence.

Fluorine Coating

Smooth, scratch- and dirt-resistant fluorine coating is used on the front most lens. Even if the front most lens gets dirty from rain, snow, or dust, it can be quickly cleaned with a blower or cloth.

Macro Performance

This model features a closest focusing distance of 20 cm from the imaging surface across the entire zoom range. At the telephoto end, close-up shooting is possible up to a maximum image magnification of 0.6x[1]. Working distance: Approximately 9.4 cm (wide-angle end) and approximately 6.6 cm (telephoto end). The ability to approach main subjects at the wide-angle setting, wide-angle macro shooting with an exaggerated sense of perspective is possible, for a truly versatile lens.

Compatible with Focus Stacking

It also supports Focus Stacking, which automatically combines multiple shots with different focus. When paired with a compatible camera, you can capture composite shots that are in deep focus from the foreground to the background.

Fast & High Precision AF

The MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism is the latest in optical design technology for achieving high-speed and silent focusing with a lightweight form and minimum number of lenses. The gears, which are the cause of operational noises, have been removed and a sub-micron precision metal axis (shaft) and fast-moving linear motor driving mechanism are used for direct driving of the focusing lens.
The compact, lightweight focusing unit consisting of two cemented lenses is driven by an MSC mechanism for quick, silent autofocusing. It allows users to comfortably shoot both still images and movies.
Advances in control technologies have made 50 fps sequential shooting possible. Thanks to the camera’s advanced control technology, this lens is also capable of 50 fps sequential shooting.
