f/2.2 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON Lens – the Brightest in Class
The DMC-FX700 packages a LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON high-quality lens with 24mm ultra wide-angle* and 5x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This high-quality lens boasts an astonishing brightness of f/2.2, like no other stylish compact digital cameras. The f/2.2 lens is about 1.6x brighter than the f/2.8 lens, itself generally considered a bright lens. It lets the DMC-FX700 shoot at higher shutter speed and capture stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. Together with the anti-blurring function in the iA Mode, the DMC-FX700 never allows any subject to be blurred. This advanced lens also makes it easy to produce beautiful photos with pleasing soft background focusing thanks to the shallow depth of field provided by the extra light.

The lens unit consists of 7 elements in 6 groups with 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces. In addition to the 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens and 0.3mm thin spherical lens, another aspherical lens is designed to be as thin as 0.4mm, which results in the realization of f/2.2 brightness and 24mm ultra wide-angle of view at the same time. This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance with its minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations while suppressing ghosting and flaring.

24mm Ultra Wide-angle Lens
The 24mm ultra wide-angle lens* - rare on a compact camera - gives you a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The super-high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens minimizes distortion at the wide end.

5x Optical Zoom / 6.5x Intelligent Zoom / 10.5x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FX700 features a 5x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. The 5x optical zoom can be increased its power to 6.5x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function taking advantage of the Intelligent Resolution technology maintaining the picture quality even using digital zoom. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 10.5x* by using the center part of the large MOS sensor brings subjects even closer.* At 3-megapixel resolution or less.



Touch Zoom Function
Full touch-screen operation on the DMC-FX700 makes zooming even easier. To pull your subject in quickly by zooming to maximum magnification, touch the T button. To make a more precise angle of view adjustment, use the touch lever. These two different functions give you quick and easy control from a single screen.

Newly Developed 14.1-megapixel MOS Sensor
To realize the 1,920 x 1,080 full-HD movie recording with high image quality, the new 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor is developed for the DMC-FX700. For the effective concentration of light, the newly developed sensor adopts microfabrication technology to achieve even higher sensitivity. With an advanced micro light tube structure, both color mixture and signal loss are prevented. The result is that the photo and movie shot at any sensitivity from low to high have outstanding clearness.

High-speed Consecutive Shooting
The high speed digital signal output technology integrated in the DMC-GH1 is applied to the DMC-FX700 realizing the high speed consecutive shooting. It lets the DMC-FX700 to shoot 10 frames per second in 14-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5 frames per second with continuous AF. Even higher speed burst shooting is available with the DMC-FX700 if electronic shutter is used – 60 frames per second in 3.5-megapixel*. The frame rate, AF setting and the recording resolution can be easily selected according to the movement of the subject.

Burst Shooting Mode in Category Playback
While conventional models play consecutively shot images one by one, the DMC-FX700 lets you retrieve a full consecutive shooting block for more compact playback. In addition, the Category Playback will gather only images that were shot with the Burst Shooting mode. Burst Shooting block images can be played together in a slideshow, or individually. And you can set your best photos as "favorite" or "protect" them from deletion.

Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FX700 includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.



Venus Engine FHD
For the image processor, the new Venus Engine FHD is incorporated that features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities. By separating chromatic noise from luminance noise and applying the optimal noise reduction to each, you can capture clear and beautiful images even when shooting at high ISO sensitivity levels. The Venus Engine FHD also provides precisely selective noise reduction to the chromatic noise without affecting the border of colors which is judged from the brightness level of a pixel. Linking smoothly with the MOS sensor, the Venus Engine FHD processes a large amount of signals at high speed, making it possible to record high resolution consecutive shots and full-HD movie recording.

Intelligent Resolution Technology
The advanced image processing technology “Intelligent Resolution*" is incorporated in the Venus Engine FHD for the DMC-FX700. With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas - outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas - are automatically detected and optimum signal processes are performed to each area.
Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and movie recording.

The DMC-FX700, the top-end model of the FX series, has recording capability of full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 movies in AVCHD format*1 despite its slim, stylish body. The AVCHD format features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with conventional Motion JPEG. In addition, a host of options enhance the usability and fun of recording high quality full-HD movie. Despite its compact, slim and stylish look, the DMC-FX700 offers versatile ways of recording memories not only in beautiful photo but also in high quality movie with ultimate ease of operation.

Intelligent Resolution Technology
The image quality is greatly enhanced thanks to the new image processing technology “Intelligent Resolution*2”, incorporated in the Venus Engine FHD for the DMC-FX700. By detecting the signals whether they are at edges of the subject, they compose detailed texture or just a soft gradation first and give appropriate enhancement to the edges and textured areas respectively. Unlike the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative Intelligent Resolution precisely performs optimum signal processing to give a whole image outstandingly natural clearness with fine details. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in movie recording as well as photo recording.

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode for Movie
The iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode is available in motion image recording. The DMC-FX700 also features the Touch AF Tracking that lets you select the subject by simply touching it on the screen, and track the subject if it moves. 5 detection and correction functions including the Touch AF Tracking are simultaneously activated to optimize the settings, so you can get stunning HD movies every time.

5x Optical Zoom in Movie Recording
The DMC-FX700 lets you use a 5x zoom for motion images. It takes you right up close to images like animals and sports scenes.

Motion Picture Button
Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the top of the camera - an extremely quick, convenient way to start motion image recording. Most of the camera's settings will be carried over when switched to motion image recording.

Scene Mode for Movie
You are naturally supposed to take the same subject in the same situation when you start recording movie while recording photos. So you do not have to set the Scene Mode again for movie recording once you are in the Scene Mode of photo recording. The result is a beautiful movie best optimized for the scene.

Scene Mode Happy Mode / Color Effect Mode
Motion images can also be recorded in the Color Effect Mode. You get unique expressions by matching the colors to your subject and surroundings. In the iA Mode, you can use the Happy Mode to record even brighter colors.
